Integrating with Microsoft Office Applications - (1 min) In the last NetDocuments release 5, we released an install wizard to simplify the installation of the NetDocuments integration with Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Many of our large law firm customers have been using custom macros to perform these functions which intuitively provides users the ability while in Word or Excel to select File>Save, File>Open, File>SaveAs or File>New and automatically have NetDocuments invoked to complete that function within NetDocuments.

Give it a try. It may change your document work life! You'll say, "Why didn't I do that before?"
Login to you NetDocuments account > go to My Account, select Application Settings > and then select Install Outlook Integration. (This has included the Word, Excel and Powerpoint integrations as well.) Let us know if you have questions. This is a simple "macro" that can be customized if you have any macro experience.

Are you Draggin' and Droppin'? (2 mins) And are you a "right-clicker?" NetDocuments continues to enrich your user experience. Sometimes we forget these simple features that make life much easier. Did you know you can drag-n-drop sections from one location on the Home Page to another, and the documents from one section to another? When you are in a folder, you can drag-n-drop a document to a subfolder or a parent folder. Try right-clicking on a document name (or its entire row) and get to popular options such as email copies, print, notify, copy, etc.

Customer Spotlight -       The Spatial Group
The Spatial Group is a specialist business publishing & research company focused on commercial property markets in Australia and New Zealand. Its highly regarded news & intelligence service, Property Daily is used by a growing subscriber base in this field. The Spatial Group is currently planning further expansion into other country markets in the Asia Pacific region.

"We were looking to centrally manage all of our research information so that our market analysts could access it in whatever city they are based. Our staff move around a lot across Australia and it's been important to have resources available over the internet. We were also looking for a highly structured document profiling system which would enable efficient and effective searching. Having been a heavy user of a number of other DMS packages over the years, I was personally looking to roll-out a document management workflow based on 'virtual folders' rather than having a hierarchical system. Virtual folders offer far more flexibility and NetDocuments has developed one of the best solutions I've seen to date on this front."

"I could honestly say that our return on investment has been more than 100% over the 12 months or so that we've been using NetDocuments. It has really opened up new possibilities for our businesses and the role it is playing in our ongoing growth."

- Tim Humphreys, Director, The Spatial Group.

AT&T 1993 "You Will" Ads   View Ads
We are in the future now... how commonplace are now the technologies that AT&T forecasted back in 1993. Reminds us of how advanced we have come during the past fourteen years and how cellular and Internet technologies have changed our world. And for those skeptics who were afraid to put their money in a bank will be the same skeptics who are afraid to put their documents in a "bank" (which happens to be where the NetDocuments DR data center resides).

Serving Up Software - A Reflection of the Benefits of SaaS
Serving Up Software
Is SaaS the way to go as you decide between a hosted software served up and delivered to you or is it still better to install a software system with servers? Here are a few simple questions any layperson can ask to make sure they get the most out of a technology solution. If you have any additional suggestions - shout 'em out. (this came from a blog where the author is unknown)

1. Who manages the technology infrastructure?
If it's your company, then you'll be responsible for ensuring the system is available and speedy, functioning correctly, secure, up-to-date, scalable and integrated. If its your vendor, all that becomes their concern - and you can focus purely on results -- SaaS Benefit!

2. How do updates and enhancements get made and how often?
Good software is like a living thing. It should grow and get stronger and more capable over time. When your vendor updates the system or enhances it with new capabilities - every customer should get the benefits immediately. The second part is the frequency of updates - in general, more is better. You want your vendor to be constantly improving what they deliver to you and you want to be able to take advantage of it way more often than one time per year. - NetDocuments delivers about seven updates a year.

3. Who is making the system work the way it needs to?
This gets at the "customization vs. configurability" issue. If the answer is a software engineer or programmer it means you are going the customization route. Software code has to be written or edited to get the system to work the right way. This is a big red flag. Is configured better than customized? The result may be the same - a system that supports your processes the way you want it to - but the devil, as always, is in the details. With a customized solution - you're on your own. You've got a unique bit of software that'll have its own quirks - so when it comes to supporting, updating and maintaining it - there are unique challenges every time. With a configured solution, everyone is working from the same core - even though every customer's solution is completely different. - SaaS Benefit (by the way, NetDocs provides Web Services for customization for those who just love to tinker!)

4. Is this about technology or business results?
If it's clear that the planning for your rollout is all about the technology - what servers, what installation, what integration, etc. - then you're going to end up solving a technology problem, not a business problem. Finding a partner that can help you focus on the business results of your efforts is the only way to achieve your business goals. Again - SaaS Benefit!
