SaaS Is A Great Equalizer

"Traditional software licensing is losing its dominance and on-demand software is gaining significant momentum among companies in many industries, although market penetration is still in the early stages for large enterprises, and even earlier stages for small and medium-sized businesses.

As the SaaS revolution continues to take hold, it's becoming clear that this new distribution paradigm also helps level the playing field for small and medium-sized businesses as they compete with the more muscular enterprise giants. SaaS, as one analyst put it, is "a great equalizer." As a result, large enterprises as well as small and medium=sized businesses will have an opportunity to take advantage of the next stage of SaaS evolution, addressing their demand for mission-critical business processes, workflow and collaboration solutions.

The Gartner Group revenue forecast for SaaS reaches approximately $11.5 billion in 2011, from about $5.1 billion in 2007, an annual growth rate of approximately 22 percent. Adoption of SaaS varies widely across software markets - from 1 percent in some to more than 75 percent in others. With industry bellwethers - including Microsoft, SAP, Oracle and other large IT players — making significant investments in on-demand solutions, the future for this new distribution model is bright."
